This week was fun and exhausting. We are so lucky we got to have two amazing field trips this year. We went to the Des Moines Capital and learned about our government (past and present.) We also learned about the history of the capital. I had no idea there were three other capitals before out current one now. I didn't know about the fire that happened in the House Of Representatives office. There are 100 representatives for Iowa. Each representative has a big wooden desk all to them selves. They all work in the same room. I can't remember the exact date but I know it was in the 1800's that there was a fire in the house of representatives. It was when they had to work for candle light and some guy left his candle in the building and it tipped over and started the fire. They saved 97 out of 100 desks! That's impressive because the day that happened, it was 20 degrees below zero. So all the water just froze.
I also loved going all the way to the top of the capital and looking down. But I also hated it at the same time. I was so scared that the railing was going to break i was going to tumble off. But it was so cool seeing how small everyone looked. Bad thing was that there were a lot of stairs. 91 I think is what our tour guide said. It was so fun at the capital, seeing the beautiful building and learning about the history of Iowa.
We also went to the Des Moines Art Center. It was so cool seeing all the pieces of art. I loved going to the sculpture park too. Some of the sculptures were so big! It was so cool seeing the artist that I researched (Louise Bourgeois) two sculptures. They looked so much cooler in person than they did in pictures. I loved seeing all the other pieces. All those people were so talented, to be able to think in a different way then others and put all the pieces together. It was so much fun looking at all the art.
