We did an inquiry project about seeking the unknown. I chose to do it about Amelia Earhart. My question was: When did Amelia Earhart become interested in airplanes and how did she become famous? I made a thinglink for my information.
I can't wait for my weekend. My friend has a birthday party at a hotel then we get to spend the night at her house! So far this week has been a blast, from trick or treating. For trick or treating I was a ninja and my friend I went with was a zombie. At my friends birthday party we will have pizza, swim in the indoor pool at the hotel and have fun with all of our other friends. On Sunday, my friend and I are going to the pumpkin patch if it's warm enough. I can't wait to see my friends!
Today we had a guest speaker named Samuel Menyongar came to talk to us about how fortunate we are to have fresh, clean water that we don't have to walk miles to get to. We have schools with running water, carpet tile floor. We have money to afford food. "Be the change you wish to see in the world." This reminded me that what we do for other people is important. Other people aren't as fortunate as I am, and I can make a difference.
We have watched this Kid President video a couple times about 20 things we should say more often. Something I think I should say more often is "Life is tough but so are you." I find that when something is hard I want to give up, take the easy way out. But I need to remember that when things get harder I need to try my best and not give up when there is a challenge.
There is another thing I need to say more often... nothing. Sometimes I'm rude. And I need to learn when to dial it down and shut my mouth. Thanks to this video I realized I need to remember what I say is powerful. Do you like the cold and snow? I have just the place for you! "Harbin's 30th Ice and Snow festival is Spectacular," from DOGOnews describes about the snow and ice festival in China. After reading this article I think I want to go to the ice and snow festival. The coolest thing would be riding down the slide... snow style! And seeing the beautiful glow of the towers at night would look amazing. I thought this article gave me good information on something I've never heard of.
This is the summary i wrote for this article.
" Sleep teens get a later wake-up call " from Newsla suggests that school should start later so kids can focus. I agree with the article because on late-starts I feel like it's easier to wake up and learn and i feel like I understand what I learn in the morning. I think our school should start later and more kids would focus. I like how in the article it tells us that not getting enough sleep makes it hard to pay attention. Not getting enough sleep causes students to be exhausted. This exhaustion leads to a number of problems. Being tired makes it harder to be happy, pay attention, remember, and make good decisions. My favorite thing about 5th grade is Chromebooks! We have never been able to take home a Chromebook in any other grade, so it's exciting to be able to take them home and use them at school. We have games to help us learn. Of course we have a blog and our own email account too. Mr. Glade is such an awesome teacher, he let us have an Animoto account which I've never done before. Fifth grade will be a blast!
