These are journal entries from Virginia Dare, that I wrote of how I think she felt and what happened.
June 14, 1587
I just arrived to to the new colony, Roanoke. I am both excited, for being in a new colony and scared, because I have no idea of the trouble that might be out there. I traveled with my brother and my father. My mother had to stay back home to take care of my sister. Before I left, she gave me this journal so I could write down everything I did and saw. I hope I can see my dear mother again.
June 15, 1587
My brother, Billy and I went into the woods yesterday. We saw strange people with dark skin staring at us while we were climbing trees. Once I saw them, I was terrified. I grabbed Billy’s arm and pulled him back to camp. I told father about what we saw and he insisted that we go back and talk to them about the land and animals but I was too scared to go any where near the creatures. I have bad feelings about those creatures.
December 30, 1588
This will be the last time I write for a while. The creatures have been coming in our settlement with weapons while screaming an unknown language. Father usually has to chase them away. I know they are not happy with us but I do not know why. I hope nothing happens to our settlement because I want to see it grow and I want mother to come and see how well we are. Father said we need to blow out all the candles. This is goodbye for n
